Lessons

Group lesson is $35 for 60 minutes. All riders must have appropriate footwear, riding pants or tights, and a helmet. Helmets can be rented for $5 per lesson.

Please contact Sandy Brady, 317-538-5373, for availability.

Lessons take place year-round (excluding most holidays), as long as the outdoor temperature is above 20F. Saturday lessons are often cancelled during show season (mid-April to mid-September) due to shows at Canterbury or other local barns. Please contact Sandy to confirm if lessons will be cancelled due to weather or holidays.

Lessons are held Monday through Thursday (5 and 6pm) and Saturday (9:30 and 10:30).

All riders must have a Release of Liability on file.  Please print the form, sign, and bring to your first lesson.  Extra copies will be available on site.

What to Expect

Beginning riders will spend the majority of their first lesson walking and learning how to control their horse with the reins and their legs. Once the rider is comfortable at the walk, the instructor may allow the rider to trot. After several lessons of walking and trotting, the rider may be taught additional skills, including canter, two-point (jumping) position, and jumping over groundpoles (poles placed flat on the ground) or crosspoles (poles placed in an X formation between two posts).

Intermediate to advanced riders may jump at 2′ or above on hunter or jumper style courses and practice advanced equitation techniques, including riding without stirrups, halt, and simple or flying lead changes.
